Usability enters new dimensions

Usability began as a science, with few researchers and few philathropist technocrats wanting to make things easier and within reach of a larger population. the real usability began with the first macintosh and windows systems hitting the market, which introduced the common cleric with lesser knowledge of technical systems. making it simpler to access, store and use information.

Usability hit prime, with companies realising that non-usability was really bringing down the ROI's, with users taking longer time to learn and use. The market once dominated with legacy systems, with DOS type of input/output is being replaced with smarter systems that also consider the user.

Commercial software, better be great with usability or we have a situation of no sales, cause the user cant comprehend how to use it. or we have a competitor how knows better. The explosion of information itself has forced us to learn newer ways to organize information and present it in a style that it can be used.

Usability as a science is vast, at the same time it is part of initial requirements gathering process itself. If Usability is combined and made an important aspect of the initial processes. we really wont need the rocket science. the fact that it is there implies users loving applications more than ever before, rather than the taming the beast approach.
